新西兰奥克兰大学校长致辞

 

My name is Stuart McCutcheon, Vice-Chancellor (President) of the University of Auckland, and it is my pleasure to welcome you to our new Aulin College established jointly between Northeast Forestry University and the University of Auckland. Aulin takes the first syllable of “Auckland” and the first syllable of “Linye” meaning Forestry in Chinese a name that we feel symbolises the deep and meaningful collaboration between our institutions.

 

我叫Stuart McCutcheon，是奥克兰大学校长。很高兴欢迎你来到东北林业大学与奥克兰大学携手创建的全新的奥林学院。奥林这个名称结合了“奥克兰”的首音节及中文“林业”的第一个字，这象征着我们两所大学之间合作的深刻意义。

 

Since it was founded in 1883, the University of Auckland has grown to become New Zealand's flagship, research-led university, known for the excellence of its teaching, its research, and its service to local, national and international communities. In the 2019 QS rankings, the University of Auckland was ranked 85, the only New Zealand university ranked in the top 100. Furthermore, the University of Auckland was ranked No. 1 globally in the inaugural University Impact Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE). This outstanding result recognises the University of Auckland’s commitment to sustainability and making a positive social impact through its research, teaching and knowledge transfer. Our research programmes range across all disciplines and we are world leaders in such fields as Computer Science, Statistics, Biological Science, Chemistry and Ecology. Alongside this, we have an excellent record in educating our students. Our graduates have exciting and impactful careers and have been taught by many winners of teaching awards.

One of the key features of the University of Auckland is our focus on developing an international presence and connections. In 2016, Professor John Hosking, our Dean of Science, set up the University of Auckland’s first offshore joint programme in China and is now excited to enter into the innovative Aulin College project in partnership with Northeast Forestry University.

 

奥克兰大学的一个主要特点是我们专注于国际影响力和关系的发展。2016年，我校理学部部长John Hosking教授在中国开展了奥克兰大学的第一个海外合作办学项目。如今我们又与东北林业大学联合成立了具有创新意义的奥林学院，这更是让人激动。

 

We are pleased to be working with a partner as prestigious as Northeast Forestry University, one of the three oldest institutions for forestry education and research in China under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. NEFU serves as a key university within the scope of former national 211 Project and the newly formed Double First Class disciplines universities. NEFU’s strengths complement those of the University of Auckland and together we will provide you with an outstanding education.
